There are three rules here: simplify, simplify, simplify. This takes continuous striving of your best effort and ultimate focus. It’s hard work to do LESS! Mark Twain said it best: “I didn’t have time to write a short letter, so I wrote you a long one instead”. To edit, delete, and simplify is a never ending quest that never comes easy. SPACE is powerful, and a big part of the LTR METHOD. Creativity and inspiration will come from the space you leave from the unessential that you remove. The urge we have as drummers and in life is usually to constantly ADD, and to do TOO MUCH. You usually don’t need as much as you think you need, whether it’s volume, ideas, or just sheer notes that you play. Simplicity is beautiful.
