A trap we can fall into is thinking ‘THAT person has all the answers’, but if you dig you’ll see the lineage of ideas that are being constantly reinvented. It all comes from somewhere, that person didn’t make it up! There is nothing new under the sun. What IS new is ancient knowledge being filtered through YOU. This gives you the power, and no one else. The first line of Seneca’s quote ‘the ones who pioneered these paths aren’t our masters, but our guides’ is almost exactly like Bruce Lee’s quote ‘a good teacher functions as a pointer to truth but not a giver of truth.’ No one owns this stuff! What’s empowering is that when you express these things, you can’t help but put your own personal stamp on it, your unique mode of expression. John Bonham didn’t invent those ideas on the drums, but he did them with his own flare. We all naturally do this without even thinking about it anyway, we can’t help but be ourselves! There are no idols; no one is coming up with any of this stuff, but only reinventing it through their own lenses, with infinite variations. So do the research, know your history, go deep into the ancient knowledge, then stand up and do YOU.
